this may come off as a rude question, which isn't intended, but do you think being a veteran should have any influence on you getting hired over any other candidate that applies for a job? if so, why?

gotcha, thanks. i only asked because a) you included the job search in your initial message and b) my workplace recently hired a veteran pretty much because he is a veteran, and he isn't that qualified.
