You should play EVE Online. That sort of thing is encouraged, lauded even.

They still bite you, but you don't develop the characteristic itchy welts any more.

The immunity actually develops faster with black flies, but is not as permanent. I've had black fly bites stop bothering me after a summer, but the reaction came back the next year.
