Having read one of Lloyd Kaufman's books with an intro by the two of them, I can field the first question. He saw what was shot of their film Cannibal: The Musical, and wanted to fund the remainder that needed to be shot. He called them up and flew out to meet them in California.

They ended up meeting at a Del Taco, where Lloyd Kaufman offered to fund the film. When they asked about how much money they'd get for themselves, he sympathetically explained that there's no way in hell it would ever make enough money to even pay Troma back, let alone enough money that they'd see any of it.

Eventually, Trey Parker & Matt Stone found huge success with South Park, which gave their earlier films (including Cannibal) buzz and led to Cannibal finally making money for both Troma and P&S.

As far as the future, that'll have to be fielded by OP.

Edit The book is Make Your Own Damn Movie!

Any chance of a Dr. Sheila's Robot book? Or cartoon? Or anything more than the trickle of comics you release that gives us a tiny taste and leaves us hungering for more?

I once applied for a job at Troma. Never heard back. Oh well...

FYI, the book is instructional about how to make a film on a limited budget with history of Troma used as examples. For a book about Troma itself, you'd probably wanna go with All I Need to Know about Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger, although that one's not completely non-fiction...
