What is the cause for nap attacks? (Appear suddenly out of the blue, intense sleepiness for about 10-15 minutes, then disappear like nothing happened.)

I have a friend in the Ukraine that I haven't heard from in some time. Is there a list of casualties from the protests?

I have a friend who was very successful in the military, but now that he is out he constantly depressed, drinking, and threatening to end his life (he also has PTSD). His personal life is heartbreaking on it's own, and since we live so far apart (geographically) with little in common, I am not sure how to help.

What can friends from afar do to help?

I have already told him about Reddit to connect with others and help cheer him up, and told him that there may be a program that he could get a therapy dog to help with his PTSD, but other than that I am not sure what else I can do.
