Mr. Zahn,

As an 8 year old, "The Last Command" brought me into adult fiction and cemented my love of Star Wars. When I was a bit older, the original world-building, plotting, and characters of The Conquerors Trilogy REALLY captured my imagination!

I was wondering if you could share any of your inspiration for The Conquerors Trilogy with us? I've always felt it had some of the same zest and zeal as your Thrawn Trilogy, and was wondering if there were any shared elements/inspirations between the two?

I'd ask for more Conquerors - as I'm sure EVERYONE here would - but, if we can't look forward to that, may I ask if there will ever be a 3-book Omnibus of The Conquerors Trilogy? A hardcover with some nice cover art would really spruce up the ol' bookshelf...

Thanks for doing this, Mr. Zahn, and write on!

It's really cool to see inspiration dovetail into world-building, and find its way right back out into character development! It's a stronger book for it, knowing that that society, fully-imagined as it was, was partially dedicated to helping realize your "war started by misunderstanding on both sides" project!

I'm fascinated by the fact that you chose which people would be the main characters (from a pre-established pool?), as I'd always felt Svv-selic Too'rr was originally intended to be the main Zhirrzh character. If you've the time, I'd love to know if there's anything to that - obviously, Thrr-gilag & his father were clearly the right choice!

Also, I can't help but suggest while I'm here: Quinn = Fett? One way or the other, thank you for The Copperheads - THAT is some inspiring military sci-fi!

Thank you so much for answering my question[s!!!!] - after spending so many years of my life reading your works, having you write back to me is nothing short of an honor!

Can't wait for that omnibus - PLEASE ask Baen to go hardcover with it!

Mr. Rinzler, thank you so much for doing this AMA! I was recently fortunate enough to come by your Original Trilogy Storyboards book, and I consider it one of the finest things that could ever grace my bookshelf! With the effect that the OT has had on my life, to see the storyboards behind it all is nothing less than life-changing.

I feel the same way about your adaptation of "The Star Wars;" these are opportunities to really see a face of Star Wars that we never ordinarily would.

Umm... I guess I'm just saying "Thank you - more please?!"

A "Volume: 02" with more of those Original Trilogy storyboards would be great!

I'd gladly shell out for another 8 issues if you'd be so kind as to adapt a DIFFERENT draft of George's script - perhaps the one you mentioned in the Storyboards book wherein Luke is a girl?

Or maybe Leigh Brackett's Empire Strikes Back?
