To what extent, if any, is the Russian Orthodox Church under Putin's influence? Does he have effective veto power over the Church or do they effectively operate without governmental interference?

Sadly it seems like the Russian Orthodox Church has never been truly free and independent. It has either kowtowed to autocrats and monarchs or was wholly suppressed as it was under the Bolsheviks.
