This is exactly it. I did plumbing for 17 years and to me, fixes like that are simple, but I don't know shit about my car's engine and will not even attempt to diagnose or fix a problem in it because I am afraid I will not only make it worse, but then have to pay a mechanic who knows what he is doing twice as much in the long run. I can't tell you how many times I went on service calls after somebody tried to fix it themselves, only to find I had to work for twice as long fixing their bullshit patch before I could even BEGIN to actually repair the plumbing. A DIY person with enough knowledge can save a lot of money, but a DIY person who is making guesses can easily rack up a huge bill and possibly cause personal injury or property damage. If you don't know what you're doing, PLEASE don't fuck with it.
