Autumn. My mind nearly exploded with how utterly, utterly beautiful the colours were, and with a car you've pretty much got the island to yourself. Great time for walks, get all chilly during the day then warm up in a steaming onsen in the evening. One of the best trips I've ever had, and I'm, well, I'll just say I'm pretty well travelled.
