I was one of those kids! As I've grown up, I see little kids in Chinese restaurants and think "Maybe one day you'll go to college/get a master's/get a Ph.D/move back in with your parents... Doh!"

Speaking of not giving up control, I never got why contestants had any issue starting the Express, with even the odd person refusing it. Express can only increase the odds of success over normal play.

I've been greatly enjoying your AMA responses, but I don't think your 1st point is correct. I take it that your source is from studies of the Ethnographic Atlas, which Wikipedia summarizes as:

According to the Ethnographic Atlas, of 1,231 societies noted, 186 were monogamous; 453 had occasional polygyny; 588 had more frequent polygyny; and 4 had polyandry.[6] At the same time, even within societies that allow polygyny, the actual practice of polygyny occurs unevenly.

Due to how the Atlas's categories are phrased, these data do not show that polygamy is the most practiced relationship type. "Occasional polygyny" also means "mostly monogamy," and "frequent polygyny" also means "partial monogamy." The quote's final sentence means that polygyny is not unilaterally practiced in cultures where it occurs: it is generally a practice of the elites in a group.

That is my take on the data, which I have noticed conflicts with views seen on the Internet (Dr. Nerdlove stated something similar to what you wrote, for example). Note that my views have no opinion on the current state of polyamory in modern culture: people should be able to do what they want if no one gets hurt. But, the historical backing for this practice is not there.
