I had part of my thalamus burned out with a BrainLab machine to cure an AVM 7 years ago. Now I am allowed to forget anything that happened before that. It's handy.

And you can write a book about it! Seriously.

What shocks me is that your story is actually common in the US, but for children of fundamentalist Christian families instead of Muslims.

My daughter has friends who would be disowned or worse for coming out as atheist or gay. As a teenager, my wife was violently beaten by her mother when she told her she didn't believe in god.

Good luck to you!

I've noticed in both Japan and China they teach English mostly with reading and writing, not speaking. So they can read what you write, write back to you, and they can usually even understand you (thank the stars for e-mail, makes business easier) but they cannot SAY what they want to say or read aloud what you wrote.

I have a Chinese friend who moved back to China after living in the US for 25 years. He speaks English well and I'm trying to get him to open a school in Beijing to teach people how to SPEAK English, especially American English.

Wow. Glad to know I caught it before that. Well, I'll back you up on any memory omissions you want to have a witness for. We gotta stick together.
