How close are we to curing retinitis pigmentosa and other degenerative diseases of the eye?

Saw you for the first time in Saskatoon back in 89 or so opening up for the Northern Pikes (one of my all time favourite bands) Was that just a one time gig or did you tour with them for a bit? Any memories of those guys to share?
