When I was a Christian I believed that whether you were saved had nothing to do with what you professed. It was the only answer that made any sense. Jesus said that he knew his sheep and would gather them to him; also he said:
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (emphasis mine)
I think it does arouse curiosity, but that curiosity gets squashed by fear. Of hell, or estrangement from friends/family (I dated a girl whose sister got disowned--and I mean they won't even talk to her--by her parents for leaving the church), or any number of things.
What did I fear? I feared that I would never be happy, that there was no heaven, no place where all wrongs would be made right. And it wasn't until I turned my back on Christianity that I realized that being happy was up to me, that it's wrong to sit at home and pray while people are hurting, and that if no one helps, then there will be no help.
Best decision I ever made.

Hey I'm a little late but thanks for doing this AMA. I noticed you replied to just about everyone, even the same questions over and over, and I think that makes you awesome. Thanks!
Also I observed an apparent lack of speedo-related questions in this AMA. Mine: what is your preferred euphemism? Is it banana-hammock? Or is it pickle-sling?

When I was in Nigeria, everyone would shake hands with everyone, and the cool guys would always snap their fingers off of each others'. How can we bring this practice to the West? My friends don't get how cool it is.
