From my experience, elderly Parisians are snooty. All the young people I met were awesome.

Besides, I imagine Parisians get sick of the sheer volume of tourists (wouldn't you?), so I resolved to speak as much French as I could once I got there. And I think they sincerely appreciated the effort.
