That clears it up. I know a few paramedics and one mentioned something like this but I wasn't fully paying attention. I was already aware that I am protected by good samaritan laws if I choose to begin CPR(I am certified in infant, child, and adult CPR and AED use) . I was not clear on the obligations of EMS on and off duty.
Thanks

First of all I want to thank you for what you do.
What do you think of the different systems of emergency medicine between the US and Europe? It is my understanding that in the US the idea is to get the patient to the hospital ASAP (golden hour) while in Europe they often have doctors with them and try to stabilize the patient then move.
Do you think EMT-B's should be taught more before going to the field or do you feel that they are generally prepared for their assigned duty?
What are a few things that you wish paramedics could be trained to do, that they are not trained to do currently, in order to further their life saving treatment en-route to hospitals?

Please excuse me if I am wrong but I thought EMS personnel have less protection under good samaritan laws . By that I mean the idea that they don't protect personnel involved from losing their license.
