How much actual litigation do you do? Or, are many cases settled with a demand letter or early in negotiations?

Dan, have you done any research into the dynamics of professional services? I'm a lawyer, and I find the hardest part of my job is to convince people to pay. The rules of professional conduct severely restrict how lawyers attract new clients. The most common way is to network and develop relationships with potential candidates. The problem is people tend to want free advice from their lawyer acquaintances and friends.

I've thought about switching to only offer free legal services and to expect (but not require) a donation once the services are complete. Do you think people would respond to this mix of "free" and social versus market norms?

Edit: updated using correct terminology.
