Have companies like Bayer / Monsanto gotten any better at quelling dissidents? They used to recruit former U.S. intelligence personnel through private consulting to perform social media targeting efforts against participants of the 'March against Monsanto' movement. Are they still playing these games?

Is there any public understanding of these efforts that companies take 'in the shadows'?
