Allegedly he's not. He used to be on the show Dragon's Den in Canada, of which Shark Tank was the US spinoff. Apparently he made a really rude comment one day, which at the time was out of character for him, and the producer really loved it and told him to "be more evil." He did, and the ratings of the show improved, so he carried the persona over into Shark Tank.
