The right to marriage was not created by the constitution, but by laws that defined it legally and extended privileges to people who were then legally married. So the simple answer to this question is that the 14th amendment guarantees equal protection under the law. So really, the very act of creating a right through legislation, such as with marriage, extends equal protection under the constitution to that right.
