Are there any ethical and environmentally responsible ways for a non-scientist person to see polar bears in their native environment?

My wife and I were on a kayaking expedition in Svalbard this past summer. It was amazing, and being in the kayaks was a fantastic way to see that part off the world. No polar bears at that time of the year though.
