I'm a para complete from a vehicle accident.... willpower has little to nothing to do with paralysis recovery. Will power only helps with rehab and muscle development after paralysis. No amount of will power will reconnect a broken nervous system in your back. Sometimes the body recovers some or all movement and sometimes is does not.... willpower is not involved in that process at all.

The whole willpower thing is a movie/TV trope.
