Net Neutrality question: Why should I (or the content provider of the service I am using - e.g. Netflix) not have to pay more if I use more internet if I currently pay more if I use more electricity?

Thank you Tim! So net neutrality would make it illegal for content providers to negotiate contracts with ISPs for faster service, but would allow ISPs to charge consumers by the amount of data used?

Wouldn't the cost be passed on to the consumer either way?

Thinking about it as a consumer, I think it's great if streaming music from my phone is free from the rest of my plan. Also, if I'm skypeing someone, I'd much rather not have my audio compromised so I can continue my conversation, which would require treating the audio data differently than the video data.

I believe the bigger issue is the lack of competition between ISPs. If consumers had to option to choose from different services and packages, the best would (hopefully) win.
