I replied to him here. The idea of a 37 year old with one year of training winning against one of the Mendes, Galvao, Buchecha, Lovato Jr or any of the other world champions is mind boggling. I'm trying to think of how the 37 year old would stand a chance.
I can't even really fathom it.

I can (sort of) answer this question. First of all, the terminology you used is important. If you look at the source, it says "pit bull-type dogs". What are pit bull type dogs? Whatever the person reporting the bite says they are. There isn't any one breed of pitbull, it's just a name given to a collection of dogs that look like they kinda-sorta fall into pitbull category.
So, you have this very general ill defined collection of breeds, and you have people already under bias that pitbulls (aka, several different breeds of dogs) are dangerous, and you have inflated numbers.
It'd be similar to lumping collies, labradors, german shephards, australian shephards, huskies, and akitas into one breed, calling it "Kill Fighters", and then saying: "The amount of Kill Fighter bites drastically outnumbers other dog breeds, clearly this breed is dangerous!"

so age isn't as big of a factor as some other martial arts which might rely on heavy kicks or punches to simply overpower an opponent.
As a practitioner who has been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu1 for over eight years -- I think you are full of it.
There is pretty much no way this:
37 year old who has been training for less than half a year can go and win a silver medal?
would happen at the BJJ worlds Adult (under 31) or Masters (over 31) at the black belt level. The best we've seen was BJ Penn winning after four years of training -- and that was him training professionally and nearly full time. If a 37 year old who had been training for one year entered the Adult Black Belt level BJJ world championships, it would be a massacre. 37 year old BJJers with one year of training tend to get destroyed by their local black belts.
Age absolutely is a factor against other trained opponents. As is weight. It is somewhat less so against untrained opponents, but still a pretty large factor.
One of the key facets of taekkyeon is misdirection and confusion
I think that's the marketing plan, not the martial art. Most martial arts focus on forcing the opponent to make unforced errors; (eg: misdirection and confusion). That doesn't make it unique.
1: For those who aren't aware, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu focuses heavily on technique over power, but as with most martial arts, strength and agility plays it's part.

This is why BMI is bullshit.
