As is the case in Indonesia for the European theatre, at most we know who are the players in WWII in the European theatre but no details on it at all.

The info on the wars in Dutch EI was rather more comprehensive actually, although the impression given was '350 years' of colonisation without recognising that there were 2 separate periods of VOC and the Dutch govt itself, and not all the 350 years were repressive periods in all of Indonesia.

Even the Pacific theatre, Malaya, etc was not talked about in any detail.

The period of Japanese occupations actually was a period where the national leader was allowed to form various organisations to prepare for independence. This however was done in return for favours in 'mobilising manpower' some of which were basically for romusha / forced labour camp, whether in Sumatra, and Java, even in Thai-Burma Railway. Despite all the memoirs built for the allied PoWs, actually 80% or more of the labourers are indigenous / asian labourers.

Japan expected independence to be given sometime in Sep-Oct 1945 and making real progress on it. But due to the surrender on 15 Aug 1945, the national leaders are in a limbo because they know once the allied forces came in all this progress will be undone. Hence the radical (i.e. non-compromising) youth group kidnapped our first president and vice to be / to pressure them to declare independence, seeing as the window was slowly closing. It eventually happened on 17 Aug 1945. However, not until very recently was this date even recognised by the Dutch or the UN.

To be fair though our history curriculum has to cover the history of what is now Indonesia from prehistory to Hindu kingdoms (350 AD) to Islamic kingdoms, to European colonisation, all the way until 1999ish. Not to mention a bit of general world history here and there (Industrial Rev, French Rev, etc).
