Recovered memories under hypnosis are notoriously unreliable. The satanic panic of the 80s, recovered memories of abuse that proveably could not have happened... there's a reason this technique has basically been completely removed from psychiatric practice.

The insidious thing about recovered memories via hypnosis is that the memories will form during hypnosis, making them, in essense, real memories - of events that were imagined during the hypnosis. The subject will 100% believe in the memories. So I agree with you - the Hills probably believed what they said was true, but that does not necessarily imply there was even the slightest bit of truth to what they said.
