(our sublimely draconian auto-moderator won't allow this as a top-level comment, so...)

Wow! Thanks to reddit, I got to holler at John Romero, American McGee and now YOU! Thanks for Doom and Quake! Your levels were kinda blocky, but I loved them nonetheless!

There's small error in there. It's "subependymal" GCA. This is why I believe radiologists should write their own reports (or use VR) instead of dictating to a typist. While this is a small mistake that has no bearing on the diagnosis (as there's no such thing as "subappendable") I've seen a number of typist mistakes that changed the diagnosis -and therefore, treatment- completely.

EDIT: typos.

How did you approach joining/starting a project that isn't entirely within your professional field? Any obstacles you had to overcome?

I have my own interest in doing research in the field of neuroscience, particularly in regards to neurodegenrative disorders and neuroplasticity. But as it turns out our health care system is only interested in filling jobs and getting quick returns from whatever they invest in.
