What the hell. I stay at "nice" hotels - Radisson, Hilton, and some smaller chains - and it's rare that someone even offers to carry my luggage.

People seem to think that "hostel" means "exactly like a five star hotel but just really cheap for some reason".

Shop talk. You must all really like your jobs.

One question: do you find the process of applying for grants/funding to be an inefficient use of your time or is this, perhaps, the best method we currently have to allocate scare financial resources?

Long story short, I stumbled across this AMA and then stumbled across this link. It (the link) was actually really interesting; I've watched both episodes concerning Baptiste and another with a Ukrainian (ep 73). While the original AMA wasn't particularly fruitful, as a foreigner living in Poland (10+ years now) it was very interesting to see how foreigners live in a place like Korea. So thanks for the link.

Do shooting ranges have stuff like Ruger 10/22's? If I didn't have any other places to shoot then a shooting range and a 10/22 would be what I'd recommend /u/lauracmorel start out with as well. As you say, the ammo is relatively inexpensive, the gun is easy to handle and doesn't produce really any kick and very little noise when wearing ear protection.

Plus if the range has those nice 20 (25?) round banana clips then it's extra fun. :)

I got my Polish wife to shoot my 10/22 when we first visited the US. Up until then she said she hated guns and hated the thought of shooting. After the first time target practicing she insisted on going again the next day. She and I have done at least one target practice session on each subsequent visit back to the US.

I'm an American that moved to Poland about a decade ago, so it was very interesting to see all of the Soviet-style blocks in NK. We still have plenty of those all over the place.

Question: when you had to get out all your electronic stuff at the airport, did they actually go through it - looking at photos or whatever? You said that you weren't supposed to take a bible into NK but what about an ebook copy on your iPhone (or whatever)?
