No, we're not. I assure you, it is worse than you are thinking. The DTCC owns every share you ever buy. Then they deliver rights to those shares to your brokers, who then can loan those shares out for shorts to bet AGAINST the investment YOU BOUGHT FROM THE BROKER.
And it gets worse... The DTCC has all but confirmed they're treating share ownership as fractional reserve banking, as they refuse to take any action regarding naked short selling.

Start by watching this. It's not long, and it explains the mechanism by which bad actors can manipulate the value of a company into bankruptcy.
Now, once you grasp that piece, the next thing you need to understand is what a market maker is. Market makers provide "liquidity" by creating artificial shares of companies and selling them to reduce volatility (unpredictable and violent price movements). In theory, if a stock is suddenly in high demand, the price will respond violently, but unpredictable pricing isn't what people want. So a market maker is LEGALLY able to create entirely synthetic shares of publicly traded companies, with the expectation that later on, they're supposed to buy them back after the price stabilizes, and that cancels them out of existence.
Remember the video part about strategic fails to deliver? Well, market makers get an exception where instead of T+2 settlement, they get T+35. And that can be reset. Endlessly.
Now, if you're curious for more, I think you know where to find the info. But I'll leave you one more detail to consider: since 1993, virtually ALL gains on stock have taken place after hours, while during regular hours when retail investors can buy, it has been flat.
It's not that there IS corruption. That is ALL that there is. If you have more questions, I'll do my best to point you in the right direction.
Apes strong together.

Five of these are albums I've never heard.
Looks like it's gonna be a long night.
