Nizhny Novgorod offers nice "slices" of cultural relics. You can see Soviet architecture, a Kremlin that's been relatively unaltered, and these low-slung wooden homes and dirt courtyards that Mike talks about. It's definitely a great view into Russia outside of the two capitals.

What is it, in your opinion, that makes these sorts of discoveries so fascinating from an anthropological perspective?
