Those toilets man. Those toilets. I got arrested early one Thursday morning for DUI in Pinellas county. I was 21 at the time. After processing for 24 hrs, I was finally sent to the jail for the night to wait until Monday to see the judge. I couldn't see him on Friday for some bullshit reason. At around 4 am Saturday morning, they served breakfast. I got up and tried to eat that god awful slop (unsuccessfully) and then returned back to bed, as did all the other saps that were locked up with me. A couple minutes later, I got a pain in my stomach that doubled me over. I guess that bite of soft boiled egg hit the Jager and decided it did not want to be in me anymore. I'm sitting on the toilet, out in the open, trying to be quiet. That's when this big black trustee walked by pushing a mop. He just looked at me and yelled "DAMN SHITTY BOOTY, you ok?", in the 4am silence of the dormitory style jail. And that's how I got the nickname shitty booty while in a Florida jail.

I just want to thank you and people like you. I seem to skip right over user names, though I try not to.

What do you do to relax?

I heard an interview the other morning from a wrestler in the WWE. He also plays in a band, but I can't remember his name. Apparently after all the suicides and deaths in the past several years the WWE drug tests all the wrestlers. First offence and you're fined and suspended. Next offence you're fined a larger amount and suspended for longer. A third offence and you're officially fired.

ICU nurse here. Withdrawal of care is the term we use. That being said, it is true we (the doctors mostly) sometimes push for withdrawal. But its never because of donation. Its usually because we've kept this person alive for weeks and there is no hope for improvement. By this time, in my experience, any organs other than maybe skin or corneas have been damaged to the point that they aren't even a candidate anyway. Its unfortunate but some people are unable to let go. I've heard "but s/he's a fighter" more than I'd like. S/he probably was a fighter. But now they're 92 with dementia, on dialysis and pressers, with trach and vented. They did their fighting. Its our job to advocate for the patient, and sometimes its a kindness to push to let them go. I honestly forget about donation until the paperwork needed to complete withdrawl asks if I have called TransLife.
