Thanks for doing this AMA. I'm a huge fan and respect your work.

As a relatively young American who is also a self-described political junkie, what do you see in the future of politics that can keep me from being cynical?

I recently was at a two day lessons learned workshop by a couple of 'whitebeards' from NASA whose careers probably overlapped with yours. One comment that really stuck out was that the average age at NASA around the moon landing was around 25. Today I see that being very hard to have large very risky and expensive projects being staffed by people only a few years out of school. What happened at NASA to get where the average age today is in the 50's and younger members aren't immediately given larger responsibilities? Should this be changed and if so, how?

Glenn, if you remember I met you a few months ago at the Polk awards. I was in the first table in front of where you were speaking. While I think the work you are doing is extremely important, I am extremely disappointed in the American people for letting things get to this point. The rationale and excuses for excessive US government surveillance were mostly in the security realm and if you questioned these tactics, you were 'with the terrorists.' It is unfortunate that it is over 10 years after 9/11 we can have actually have a dialogue questioning these tactics.

I have two questions:

  1. Do you think that if 9/11 never happened, there wouldn't have been any rationale for the excessive data collection of Americans by the NSA or that there would be some other rationale to take its place (like child molestation)?

  2. With is eligibility to stay in Russia possibly soon to expire, where do you think Edward Snowden should go?
