While your sentiments are both correct, and sound, my statement was directed toward the service rendered. The time spent. And the life risked.

I agree with you wholly that some military conflicts are completely politically motivated. And as a soldier, it sucks to be at the whim of some faceless, government entity that does little more than issue orders. And yes. As a soldier at times we question the objectionable orders.

But. When those orders are sound, it is our job to take them up as personal mandates, no matter how trivial, or how grave.

I'm not questioning the fact that he likely did things he wasn't proud of, comfortable with, or even liked. I'm thanking him for his time served.
