You call it over-enforcement, we in the countries that had a hardcore lockdown based on “doom and gloom” and have been Covid free since June have a very different take on things. The people who argue lOcKdOwNs DoNt WoRk truly amaze me, The WHO guidelines were clear from the start; the science didn’t change. We followed every single one of them in my country. Our economy suffered dramatically for 3 months. My business was at risk. But everyone followed the rules and as a result of taking the pain for 2 months, we have been maskless, not social distancing, and living life normally since June. And it’s not just because we’re an island country. China has also had it under control since their hardcore lockdown. Doom and gloom and over-enforcement imply an unwillingness to acknowledge that this was serious from the start and everyone knew that. How countries chose to respond varied, but no one talks about the countries living COVID free now, because the focus is all on the countries that continue to fuck it up.

But America never really locked down. This is what I can’t wrap my head around. Protesting masks, back to work after 3-4 weeks, no restrictions with traveling across states. You guys suffered a year long “lockdown” because it’s not at all a lockdown. I truly feel awful for everyone in the states (my family is all there) suffering through these half assed attempts.

Yeah our lockdown was a literal lockdown. 24 hour curfew on Sundays, all nonessential businesses ordered to close (only grocery, pharmacy, liquor and petrol open) for 2 months, only allowed out of your house during the weekdays and saturdays based on your last name (a-f allowed out mondays weds and fri, and the other last names the other days), mandatory masks literally everywhere, social distancing everywhere, not allowed to visit anyone’s house, contact tracing and government quarantine, massive testing program, and 7 pm-7am curfew daily for 2 months. Also, borders closed and now they are still closed but family can enter and people on work permits, but 2 weeks mandatory government supervised quarantine (geofenced homes wearing tracking bracelet). That’s what we experienced and the 2 week quarantine is still in effect for incoming travelers but otherwise we’re completely back to normal.
