Respectfully, your answer overlooks an important component of this issue. Your argument focuses on the need to keep mining coal until there is no more coal, and only then switch to renewables, as this will keep at least some coal mining jobs for some time longer.

This is true, but it overlooks a huge argument against coal mining - the environmental impact, of the mining, but even more so of global warming. In order to avoid a worse-case situation regarding global weather and sea levels, the sooner all coal use can be stopped, the better for everyone.

As a person with family that farmed for centuries before it became impossible to live by it anymore, I understand the position of wanting to keep jobs and livelihoods in an existing industry in an area highly dependent on that industry. I certainly understand and support efforts to diversify the regional economy and regional opportunities. However to approach this issue solely as one of local jobs and no other issues overlooks a key reason for the regulation you oppose, and the fate of everyone on the entire planet.
