A pit bull is actually any dog that was originally bred from an Olde English Bulldogge. This encompasses MANY different breeds and statistics become skewed because they are all lumped in together. If you do a little more research you will find that most recorded bites are by small dogs -- specifically daschunds, chihuahuas, and Jack Russell terriers. Unfortunately, because they are small and not considered dangerous on account of their size the bites are far less likely to be reported and recorded.
