The problem I have with Tammet is that those who have real synaesthetia has some sort of disability, like Kim Peek (rain man), whom Tammet met in his book. I first read Tammet's Born on a Blue Day, then Doidge's The Brain that Changes Itself, and lastly, Foer's Moonwalking with Einstein. Doidge's book did not touch on Tammet, but it did write about how notions of a photographic memory are myths, mainly if you have this ability your brain will severely lack in other areas and none have ever been able to function in society without help. When Foer talked about how regular people could pass as savants by using age-old techniques, I found that explanation to be more likely.

I'm not saying that Tammet is a fraud, but it all seems highly suspicious.
