I'm originally from NY, also used to live in the Heights. If memory serves, cabs are obligated to take you anywhere in the 5 boroughs you wanna go. I might feel bad going to the Bronx or Queens or god forbid Staten Island, but to upper Manhattan? No way.

Where I live now, cabs can refuse to take you if they don't wanna go where you're going. It can really suck and make it very difficult to get home sometimes.
