Haha, no way... I'm an IT guy living in Mooresville. In fact, I just ate at Tenders 0.5 miles down the street from you guys last night.

Anyway, since we're practically neighbors, maybe you can give me some advice. I just got laid off from a project management job at a small company. Before that, I used to do IT consulting at Biz Tech (who? yeah...). I enjoyed getting out of the office, traveling to customer sites, meeting people, and fixing their problems. My biggest mistake was getting into account management. I got chained to my desk, worked on spreadsheets and invoices all day, and felt pressured to sell people things they didn't need. Lesson learned: don't take a promotion if it isn't right for you.

Right now I'm trying to decide what to do with my life. I'm half way into starting my own business, but I don't know if my heart is in it. I like to travel, and being the sole IT person for several companies doesn't really afford me that luxury without hiring someone else. I'm still young and (relatively) inexperienced, and I'm still cobbling together a bachelor's degree thanks to various blunders and interruptions in my college career.

I do enjoy IT, and I'm good at it, but my youth is wasting away in front of this computer screen, and I'm no closer to landing a "real" IT job or finishing my degree than I was 4 years ago when I entered the workforce.

Any advice?

Best of luck with your new career.
