Not OP, but I'm a navajo woman and identify as bisexual. In fact, a lot of the women in my extended family identify as bisexual. I also have quite a few gay uncles. My first wedding I ever attended was a gay wedding for my cousin. It's generally very accepted in my family. I haven't seen any hate from anyone, thankfully.

I completely understand why Native Americans aren't bothered by it. I'm half white and half navajo, and I have to say it bothers me whenever I see it. Its just distasteful to me, and still feels like a slap in the face when I see it unexpectedly. I've never gotten disrespectful or got in anyone's face over it, but It's something I'd like to see retired some day. It feels like a mockery.

I think solidarity is still solidarity, no matter the form it comes in regardless of race, gender, stereotypes or prejudices. People will always take offense to things like this, but when I see others advocating for us, I feel a sense of community and respect. You form a bridge that many people don't really care to build. I saw a lot of people come together in support of the Standing Rock issue, and it filled me with warmth.

I'm not OP and I can't speak for him, but I am a navajo college student that really appreciates when others step up for us. Not many do.

Wow! So, did you have to take your book and submit it for consideration? Or did people come to you wanting to publish it? I picked up "I Wrote This For You" at random in Barnes and Noble and I had instant tears in my eyes. Its beautiful.
