Why are people so mean on there?

Alright I wrote this kind of in a "this will be ignored" type fashion so I apologize for the "too broad" etc. Stack Overflow in general has a much, what I'd say, ruder community than even say Reddit. Yes they might not have a dedicated section to attack vb.net developers but someone legitimately trying to learn may get attacked if they a word or are doing things in a round about way trying to accomplish an issue. Everyone was new at their language of choice once. I'm just confused why everyone on there can't remember than and answer and be internet nice. Nice or no answer. If I'm posting on there I'm probably coming up on a deadline and getting an error I don't understand. The last thing I need is someone to be snarky to me. I'd literally rather get no answer than someone being a smart ass about it. Maybe there should be a serious tag or something.
