This is why I'm upset with taxis in Seattle. They won't come to my neighborhood, but Uber will.

Uber is usually considered to be half the price of a cab here in Seattle. The cab drivers are all very upset, but i don't know anyone who uses a cab anymore over Uber or Black Car (confusingly has the same name as Uber's other service).

As a deckhand, it can take a year or two or three to acquire the sea time to qualify for a license, then you have to do all the schooling and tests. Once you have the license, it can take a while to move into a position where you actually use it, depending on the business you work for. At my company it can take a year or more after you get your license before you're actually driving any boats solo.
