That video of a brown recluse and a black widow on your hand freaked me the hell out. I was twitching my own hand like crazy to "Get it off! Get it off!"

I don't mind the harmless spiders, though. I once saw a wolf spider give its life to defend the house from a brown recluse.

Thank you for doing this AMA, Eva. Ever since I read Marvin Sweeney's Reading the Bible After the Shoah, I have been wanting to ask a survivor such as yourself: are you a religious person? How did your experience at Auschwitz affect the way you viewed God?

In the past 70 years, the Holocaust has become such a go-to example in discussions of theology and ethics. Sometimes I fear that this philosophical discussion fails to appropriately attend to the only ones who have a real right to forgive - whether the people who did this to you, or God (if you happen to believe in him) who allowed this to happen.

There is that, but I was mostly worried about the extra strain pregnancy puts on your body, especially since I had high blood pressure the first time around anyway (that's apparently a particular problem with one-kidney pregnancies).

That's great that you did that. It's not something that I would consider until I know I'm done having children, but I'll keep in mind for the future.
