Can't speak for your requirements but when I became eligible for an HSA plan, I was able to choose to my own bank to manage my HSA and was able to research interest and fee structures. My HSA accrues interest (albeit at rates comparable to a savings account) and I also have the option to invest some or all of it in riskier investments. I would guess you would be in the same boat since the money in your HSA is yours, and you can continue to spend the money on qualified medical expenses (or withdraw for retirement when you are old enough) even if you are no longer eligible to make contributions to it.
