I can see a lot of good things about christs teachings, but religious people in the US want to legislate morality and force people to adhere to THEIR beliefs which is pretty disgusting.

Academia is a den of vipers. I cant imagine a more nightmarish system that exploits students and essentially pimps public funding for eventual private gain. No exaggeration, im sure 50% of academic researchers are walking down blind alleys that another research group or company has already determined is fruitless, but because there is zero incentive to publish negative results everyone is running in circles.

Imagine a system that selects the most intelligent people to do research, but then pits them against each other to compete for extremely limited resources. You arent incentivised to share ANYTHING unless you think a collaborator can actually synergize results (extremely rare). Also, around 2% of grad students will wind up with a tenure track position; the job that most of them had in mind when they started.

Im a grad student in a big-shot lab in the field doing extremely cool and cutting edge research, and I have a genuine passion for research. That being said, I cant wait to leave academia. Fuck this pyramid scheme nonsense and fuck not getting paid a living wage after going to school for literally two decades.
