I think it’s important to hold companies with major social influence accountable for their actions. What do you say to someone who applauds Facebook when the company pushes or harbors a narrative that favors said person’s own political, ethical, religious, etc ideology?

Imo its perfectly fine for a company to have a public opinion about something. I don’t think it’s okay for a company to actively try and sway public opinion by silencing anyone who disagrees and creating an echochamber of people who share that opinion. I also don’t think it’s okay for a company to actively threaten financial hardship on a government to influence politics and legislation that affects the population. If a company wants to try and influence legislation for something specific to the company (zoning laws, production laws, monopoly laws, etc) im all for it. But when it affects individuals is when it is too far. Regardless of an individuals political affiliation, if a company wants to fight to change the law, they have far more financial resources and access to legal proceedings than the average citizen. So that’s why I’m of the opinion that companies should not be able to influence legislation that affects the individual citizen outside of the company.
