In recent years, however, vagina has taken on a common usage to refer collectively to all female genitalia (I blame the Vagina Monologues). Similar to the way "stomach" can mean either the specific internal organ or the general abdominal area.

Certainly in this context it is the anatomical definition being used but the newer common usage may contribute to the confusion.
