Do you think that any of the calmer / more decent / rational prisoners would defend you if one of the dangerous ones attacked you?

Your bird looks nice! I didn't see it asked but is she an Australian Magpie? They have a reputation for being cantankerous, especially in mating season when they'll swoop you if even come close to the nest. They're really smart though! Does she display any behaviour to prove she recognises you, like when you approach the cage?

I’ve been on the bibb for a few day hikes and am about to head out for my first overnighters now that I’ve got my sleeping gear sorted. It’s a fantastic trail and I’ll do it end to end next year I hope.

Did you carry a tent and if so, which one? During winter are the shelters ever full? I’d hate to plan a multi-day overnighters without a tent and rock up to a full shelter!

I just looked it up, that is a fantastic looking tent and weighs almost nothing. It's worth investing that much when you know you might do something like the PCT. I think I'll start with something more affordable, like the Coleman Ridgeline 2p ($135) or the Black Wolf Mantis II ($260). Even though I'll hike alone most of the time, I need a 2 person for when I go out with a friend. Both of those come in at under 2kg so pretty light!
