Thanks for the AMA! I have two questions:
Islamist ideology has successfully translated into a formidable global movement. Why do you think that is?
The western narrative seems to fall on two sides when discussing Islamism. The right tends to sum it up simply as the religion of Islam itself. And to the left Islamism seems to be attributed to botched western foreign policy, imperialism, or injustices. What do you think of these views (if you agree with my characterization of them) and if you disagree with both, what perspective would you advocate instead?

TheLowSpark - There are a huge number of dialects and accents in Arabic. But I think "Daesh" is more or less pronounced similarly.
D: Pronounced as the regular English D.
A: The "A" is more difficult. It is actually an ayin (ﻉ) described formally as a glottal stop, but casually described better as an Arnold Schwarzeneggeresque sound. Think, "get to tha ChOOOpah". Pronounced from the back of the throat.
E: Pronounced as "ea".
SH: Pronounced "sh--".

Hope I was helpful!
