That's a profoundly moving answer. I'm awe-struck.

Hmm. As someone who was introduced to Margaret Atwood's writing because she was nominated for a Hugo Award, it appears the question I was going to ask (along the lines of: "How does a writer with so much mainstream and literary acclaim feel about being called a writer of science fiction?") was already addressed by Ms Atwood herself. Thanks for pointing me to this essay.

In short, what Le Guin means by "science fiction" is what I mean by "speculative fiction", and what she means by "fantasy" would include some of what I mean by "science fiction". So that clears it all up, more or less. When it comes to genres, the borders are increasingly undefended, and things slip back and forth across them with insouciance.

Tell us more about the musicals you wrote. Which musical theatre creators do you admire and why?

A starring role in Star Trek opens up many doors. But it also closes some, especially for an actor. Did this equation enter your mind before you decided to accept the job?

BTW, had the fortune and pleasure of attending the last three world premieres in Sydney, and enjoyed all of them. So glad there's a push to broaden the international appeal of the franchise.
