Is there any chance we'll ever see a "The State" reunion again, either on stage or TV?

Hi Al!

Before I ask my questions, I’ve already listened to the record and as expected, it’s absolutely brilliant, hilarious, and incredible! Also, thank you so much for being the reason I listen to music!

I come from a very musical background and at a young age I didn’t like listening to music, which made me feel like the black sheep of my family. Then one day, someone from camp lent me a copy of “Bad Hair Day” on cassette and my life changed forever! After listening to the album on repeat for days, I began reading the liner notes and saw band names like They Might Be Giants (my favorite band to this day), The Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, The Presidents Of The United States and decided to see what their music was all about. Soon enough, my love for alternative rock began and has yet to die down to this day.

I’ve bought everything in your discography and listened to each song until my ears bled and then listened some more. With every subsequent album I listened to, my musical palette began to grow and expand to different bands and different genres and now, at the age of 25, I can say I have a very eclectic taste in music.

Also, I love both UHF and The Weird Al Show and your work on projects like Tim and Eric, Drunk History, The Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy and Adventure Time have never ceased to make me smile!

You are genuinely on my favorite musicians in the entire world and I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for me and countless others by bringing attention to all kinds of music and putting smiles on all of our faces in the process. Kudos to you, Jon, Steve, and Jim for being one of the most professional sounding bands out there, both on record and live. I can’t wait to see you guys live!

As far as my questions are concerned, feel free to answer none, all, or some of them.

  1. Who were you most surprised to hear was a huge fan of yours?
  2. What was the moment in your life when you realized you had finally “made it”?
  3. What has been your biggest honor as a musician?
  4. What makes you laugh harder more than anything?
  5. What gear does your band use to achieve near-identical sounds when doing cover songs?
  6. Did you approach Amanda Palmer for “First World Problems” or vice versa?

P.S. Here’s a picture of me, my cousin and my brother when we met you at the NAMM show in the Shure boot a few years back. I was so star struck when I met you and it’s one of the best things that has ever happened to me in my life!

Hey Kumail! I'm love your standup and you're fantastic in Silicon Valley, along with Portlandia and Adventure Time! Feel free to answer any/all of these questions!

  • What was the hardest scene for you guys to shoot on Silicon Valley due to someone breaking every time?

  • Who's the funniest person on set and who's the funniest person off set on SV?

  • What's it like to work with Mike Judge?

  • How did you hear about this project to begin with and what was auditioning for it like?

  • Is there any line/scene you did for a show that got cut out that you wish stayed in?
