You should read Give and Take by Adam Grant. I was laid off fairly recently under very painful circumstances and I’m a similar type in terms of helping people being a primary goal of mine.

The book makes a lot of sense in figuring out how you can help people without undermining your own success or getting sucked dry from takers, and helps with how to read people. It was amazing for me, and if you’re a little bit Aspy then it may be even more helpful for you.

Some poles can be set to spin or be static, others are exclusively static.

Because Robert Evans is the man. Read his piece on what he learned by reading every issue of the ISIS magazine. It’s incredible.

This is probably the best article written in terms of talking about Janis' life and how he became an interpreter.

The OP does not have that bias at all, where are you pulling that from?

You can't qualify for a Special Immigrant Visa if you don't have numerous letters of recommendation from their supervisor as well as from Americans who served with the linguist in question. Matt believes, as do I, that the biggest voices in determining who is worthy should be the veterans who know the person in question. We've been working on a case for over four years now for a man who has 15 different veterans vouching for him and three different veterans who would have the interpreter move in with them into their own homes if we could just get him the visa. The screening is incredibly strict and there are many people thanking translators for saving their lives who can't get their translator to the US. I don't think it's right that those veterans should get phone calls saying that their terp who saved them has been tortured and killed.
